Preliminary works are underway to build workers’ camps and numerous studies are being undertaken now to prepare for the start of construction on Transgrid’s once-in-a-generation transmission project EnergyConnect.

More than 820 individual businesses have registered to become prequalified for work on Transgrid’s EnergyConnect project, a critical electricity transmission infrastructure which will save NSW energy customers $180 million a year and generate up to 1,500 new jobs.

Australia’s largest transmission project EnergyConnect has progressed further with the submission this week of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the project’s eastern section, from Buronga to Wagga Wagga.

Electricity customers will benefit from lower prices in the future and see positive outcomes for the environment, as Transgrid activates an innovative approach to biodiversity management on its major transmission projects.

Transgrid and its construction partner SecureEnergy are collaborating with the NSW Government’s Business Connect and Industry Capability Network (ICN), NSW to offer a two-part free webinar series to help Riverina businesses become pre-qualified for work on the EnergyConnect project.

Early works activities such as surveying, undergrounding overhead lines and camp construction are being awarded to a range of local, state and interstate businesses offering opportunities for local trades as part of Transgrid’s EnergyConnect Project.
