Community invited to information sessions as feedback adopted for VNI West

Transgrid has formally responded to issues raised during the public exhibition of the project’s Environmental Impact Statement as it continues to work closely with local communities and landowners to address potential impacts.

VNI West Program Director Daniel Banovic said lodgement of the Amendment Report and Submissions Report with the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure follows three years of engagement and consultation.

“We sincerely thank everyone who has generously shared their views and feedback throughout the planning process to help us create a better project for the region,” Mr Banovic said.

“The Submissions Report provides formal responses to issues raised when the Environmental Impact Statement was publicly exhibited last year, while the Amendment Report details proposed changes to the project in direct response to that feedback.

“We encourage community members to attend one of our upcoming information sessions and learn more about the changes and next steps as we continue to refine the NSW section of VNI West through the planning assessment process.”

Key changes include delivering the projectin two stages, starting with the extension of Transgrid’s 500 kV network through to Dinawan substation and the South West Renewable Energy Zone, delivering lower-cost and cleaner energy to homes and businesses sooner.

The second stage of the project comprises construction of the new transmission line from Dinawan to the Victorian border, which will be aligned with the delivery timing for the Victorian section of VNI West.

The proposal also includes updates to construction traffic routes and proposed improvements to selected roads and intersections, and further refinements to the location of transmission structures, access tracks and temporary construction facilities.

EnergyCo will also attend seven of the nine information sessions as part of its community consultation on the South West Renewable Energy Zone Community and Employment Benefits Program.
