Funded through Transgrid’s community investment commitment through the nation-critical HumeLink project, the long-term community asset will increase local accommodation capacity and support Upper Lachlan Shire Council’s plans to grow Crookwell’s visitor economy.
During construction of HumeLink, the cabins will also provide convenient local accommodation for project workers, helping channel more day-to-day spending towards Crookwell’s shops, cafes and other local services.
Once the project is complete, the cabins will transition to long-term rental and visitor accommodation, encouraging more people to stay longer, experience local attractions and support businesses across the Shire.
Transgrid’s HumeLink Program Director John Burke said this outcome reflects the strong collaboration between Transgrid, Upper Lachlan Shire Council and the HumeLink East construction team.
“We’re proud to support an investment that delivers benefits for the community now and leaves Crookwell with a valuable asset for the future,” Mr Burke said.
Upper Lachlan Shire Mayor Cr Gregory Harris said the new cabins were a welcome addition to Crookwell's accommodation options.
“They’ll give more visitors more options to stay longer, get out and see the towns and attractions, and spend money with local businesses. Over the longer term, they’ll also bring in some income for Council and help support tourism and economic activity across the Shire,” Cr Harris said.
Upper Lachlan Shire Council CEO Alex Waldron said the cabins would deliver immediate and long-term benefits for the community.
“In the short term, the cabins will provide accommodation for workers involved in the construction of HumeLink East, supporting local businesses and generating additional economic activity across the Shire,” Ms Waldron said.
“Importantly, once the HumeLink project is complete, these cabins will become a lasting community asset, strengthening Crookwell’s visitor accommodation offering and supporting the growth of our local visitor economy.
“This is a great example of an investment that delivers immediate economic benefits while leaving a lasting legacy for our community, providing an ongoing revenue stream for Council and supporting the long-term economic sustainability of our Shire.”
