HumeLink will deliver a more reliable and more sustainable grid, create more than 1600 jobs and generate major benefits for local communities along the route.
Transgrid has contracted Acciona Construction Australia Pty Ltd and Genus Infrastructure (NSW) Pty Ltd to deliver the eastern portion of the HumeLink project.
HumeLink East involves the expansion of the existing Bannaby 500 kV substation, along with the design and construction of a new 500 kV double circuit transmission line. This new transmission line will connect the Bannaby 500 kV substation at the Wondalga interface point with HumeLink West.

HumeLink East project update
Main construction works across the HumeLink East alignment are progressing sequentially, with teams moving from tower assembly and erection into active line stringing.
Construction comprises three major components – access, towers and stringing. With tower pad construction and structural tower installation advancing across early sections of the alignment, works have actively transitioned into conductor wire stringing.
Current and ongoing footprint activities include:
- Line stringing operations
- Use of helicopters and specialised tensioning equipment to guide and install conductor wires between towers.
- Tower installation and completion
- Cranes lifting and securing remaining tower structures, with crews using elevated work platforms to install components and hardware.
- Final foundation works
- Concrete trucks and piling equipment completing remaining tower pad construction.
- Material deliveries and site movements
- Delivery of tower components, electrical infrastructure and civil materials, along with movement of heavy machinery between work areas.
- Access and site establishment
- Ongoing construction and maintenance of access tracks and points, along with operation of temporary site compounds and accommodation facilities.
- Environmental and land management activities
- Vegetation clearing and targeted earthworks within approved areas, supported by erosion, sediment and fencing controls.
- Property and pre-work activities
- Completion of property condition surveys and targeted investigations in localised areas.
The work is undertaken by HumeLink East Joint Venture (ACCIONA and Genus), in line with the relevant guidelines and approvals.
Work will take place during standard construction hours of 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 8am-1pm on Saturdays. If out of hours work is required, we will contact all impacted landholders and near neighbours seven days before work starts.

Luke Penrith's Vision for HumeLink East
The HumeLink East project commissioned Luke Penrith, a local indigenous Wiradjuri artist, to create an artwork that represents a vision for integration between the project team and the local indigenous community and landscape. An interpretation theme of “Connecting to Country” was chosen by the artist, reflecting “the landscape of my (Luke’s) traditional lands, where the construction project is set to take place. It serves as a tribute to the Elders and ancestors who have safeguarded and nurtured this land for generations, paving the way for our connection to Country.”
The artwork is on display throughout the project, and we hope that through these avenues, the project can represent the importance of the local indigenous presence for the project as well as the central role it plays in defining the project alignment tower locations, construction methodology and disturbance footprint.

We're making it easier for local business to participate and find work with the project through the Industry Capability Network (ICN).

The project requires a variety of products and services, and all packages may not be listed on ICN. If you’re interested in registering your business for potential opportunities as the project progresses, please submit an expression of interest to the Humelink local business register.
