Are you curious about a career in the high-voltage electrical industry? Transgrid's award-winning Pre-Apprentice Program for Women provides a unique opportunity to explore a career as a Transmission Line Worker, Communication Technician or Substation Technician.

This program is designed to give participants a real taste of life in the electrical supply industry through a combination of hands-on learning, industry exposure, and practical experience. You'll train alongside highly skilled technicians, spend time with operational work crews, and participate in nationally recognised training that can provide credit towards future Electrical Supply Industry (ESI) qualifications.

While we do not currently have any upcoming program dates confirmed, we encourage anyone interested to keep an eye on our careers page and social media channels for future announcements and opportunities.

What's included?

  • All training, travel, PPE and accommodation expenses covered by Transgrid.
  • Interactive, practical learning experiences – from hand skills and wiring tasks, to substation and power station tours.
  • Exposure to real-world electrical work environments at our depots across NSW and ACT.
  • Supportive mentors and trainers to guide you every step of the way.

This is your chance to explore the industry before committing to a full apprenticeship – and at the end of the program, a select number of dedicated individuals will be invited to apply for an ongoing apprenticeship with Transgrid.

Who we're looking for

Individuals who:

  • Have a genuine interest in the electrical supply industry.
  • Are willing and able to travel and stay away from home for program activities if required.
  • can arrange transport to their local depot for in-person training and activities.
  • Have completed, or are near completion of, Year 10 studies.
  • Are enthusiastic about exploring a hands-on career in the energy industry.
