About HumeLink West
HumeLink will deliver a more reliable and more sustainable grid, create more than 1600 jobs and generate major benefits for local communities along the route.
Transgrid has contracted UGL Engineering Pty Ltd and CPB Contractors Pty Ltd (UGL-CPB JV) to deliver the western portion of the HumeLink project.
HumeLink West involves the expansion of the existing Wagga Wagga 330 kV substation, the design and construction of a new substation at Gugaa and connection works to the future Maragle 500 kV substation. The project also includes a new 500 kV double circuit transmission line to connect the substations at the Wondalga interface point with HumeLink East.

HumeLink West project update
Main construction continues to progress along the HumeLink West alignment. Main construction involves building transmission towers and stringing transmission lines across the 140km HumeLink West alignment, building the Maragle and Gugaa 500 kV substations, and upgrading the Wagga Wagga 330 kV substation.
Enabling works that began in early 2025 are continuing in some areas, including the establishment of access points and access tracks.
The Kunama and Tarcutta worker accommodation facilities have been operating since late 2025 and are now housing over 700 project workers.
The first HumeLink West transmission tower was erected in October 2025 at Gregadoo, east of Wagga Wagga. Since then, more than 10% of the transmission towers needed for HumeLink West have been erected. Tower assembly and erection crews are currently building around five towers each week, with construction expected to continue to ramp up as more workers join the project. Stringing of the first conductors between towers will start near Wagga Wagga in May 2026.To learn more about tower construction and conductor stringing, please see our tower fact sheet and stringing fact sheet.
As construction activity increases, there will be more project vehicles traveling along local roads and near construction sites. Stay informed about current traffic conditions – visit Live Traffic NSW for real-time updates on road closures, delays and conditions. To learn more about vehicle movement across the project alignment, view the HumeLink West Vehicle Movement Plan.

Electric equipment delivery to Gugaa and Maragle substations
As part of construction on the HumeLink project, large trucks and trailers will be delivering electrical equipment, including transformers and reactors, to the Maragle and Gugaa 500 kV Substations.
These deliveries require large trucks and may result in temporary traffic disruptions along parts of the transport route. The trucks and trailers will be escorted by NSW Police, due to their length. We are committed to keeping local communities informed ahead of time so residents and motorists can plan accordingly. Details of upcoming deliveries are provided below.
Oversized vehicle movements are scheduled to take place periodically between April and July, subject to weather and construction conditions. Movements will generally occur during daylight hours and, where possible, outside of peak local traffic times.
